Tim Kring Says Heroes Is Fine, It’s the Audience That’s the Problem

If you’ve been part of TRs Heroes live-blog this season, then this story is very much for you. Heroes creator Tim Kring talked to IGN, and the AV Club just happened to find this wonderful quote right in the middle of it:

“[Serialized storytelling] is a very flawed way of telling stories on network television right now, because of the advent of the DVR and online streaming. The engine that drove [serialized TV]was you had to be in front of the TV [when it aired]. Now you can watch it when you want, where you want, how you want to watch it, and almost all of those ways are superior to watching it on air. So [watching it]on air is related to the saps and the dipshits* who can’t figure out how to watch it in a superior way.”

As the AV Club points out, this is pretty much the most retarded idea ever, since DVRs and online streaming only make it easier to watch serialized shows, giving viewers more options to see them. But what’s more insane is that Kring thinks we’re the dipshits, when Heroes has:

? Characters whose motivation changes arbitarily from episode to episode, and often with the episode
? Killed and/or sissified both previous season’s villains
? Retained virtually zero characterization from the previous two season
? Ignored its characters superpowers constantly and arbitrarily to tell its stupid story (Peter and Pa Petrelli’s mind-reading powers, anyone?)
? Sent Parkman on an African safari for four episodes, and gave him a turtle of zero importance
? Sent Hiro on an African safari only to have him end up with the mind of a 10-year-old
? Made zero damn sense at all

And yet, we’re the dipshits. What’s worse is that I’m hearing that in “Fugitives,” the second half of the third season, the “Heroes” will be on the run after losing their powers en masse. Which means Heroes will take away the only interesting aspect of its show for several episodes, to instead focus on its wonderful, rich cast of characters.

Fuck you, Kring. I’m not a violent person, but I hope you get anally fisted by Hobolossus.
