Isn’t DC Rebootening Today?

You don’t have to tell me; it is, as the new Justice League #1 comes out today, with 51 other #1 issues coming out next week. A few things:

? Topless Roboteer Patrick Willems made the above video to commemorate the Crisis on Infinite Reboots. It strikes me — when said out loud, and to a person who would ostensibly have no interest in DC comics — how superficial all these changes actually sound. Whether that’s good or bad I don’t know.

? I actually read Justice League #1, sent to me by DC. I didn’t love it, but I’m in some weird nether-region where I’m not a hardcore DC fan nor a total comics novice, so I don’t know what my opinion is worth. First of all, the Justice League’s not in it, it’s just Batman meeting Green Lantern for the first time and then they meet Superman for the first time. There’s a lot of “first-time” character interactions (Batman: “The world’s afraid of us.” Green Lantern: “You say that like it’s a good thing.” Batman: “It’s necessary.”) all of which feel like they’ve been done before, and better (or at least less rushed). And does Superman punch Batman and Green Lantern first time he meets them because he’s not sure if they’re good guys? Of course he does. Anyways, it’s not bad, exactly, it’s just… not surprising.

? I’m actually more upset by the press release that came with Justice League #1, which lists 15 different publications and websites extolling DC for their balls in doing Crisis on Infinite Reboots at all, and not one of them is Topless Robot. Look, I know I haven’t been the most  vocal supporter of the DCnU, but surely I said a few adjectives that could be isolated to sound positive, such as PopMatters’ “Bold” and PSFK’s “Historic” — and if I didn’t, then surely Ethan Kaye did in his totally pro-DCnU list. But what really gets me is that DC lists Big Shiny Robot as one of the quote givers! Dude! You’re going to list a robot-themed nerd website and it not be Topless Robot? Not cool, DC. Oh well. Seeing as they misspelled Los Angeles (as in “Los Angles Times”), put a random period after USA Today, listed quotes from PopMatters twice and threw an apostrophe in Publishers Weekly (you can probably guess where) all in their official, packed with Justice League #1 press release, maybe my exclusion is for the best.
