Yapapa Yapapa Live-Action Ranma 1/2 TV Show

?Yes, you read that right — Japan is running a live-action Ranma 1/2 TV show in December. It’s only a special, but for anime fans who are still recovering from the news that the American Akira movie has been greenlit, the authentic-looking girl Ranma and boy Ranma should be some comfort. You can see the rest of the cast here, including Akane’s sisters Nabiki and Kasumi, their dad, Ranma’s dad, Dr. Tofu, Kuno, the creepy Gosunkugi kid, and some new guy made up for the special. No, there’s no picture of Ranma’s dad in his panda form, alas. I’m kind of guessing he’ll be CG (as opposed to a real panda).

If you have no idea what Ranma 1/2 is about, the above paragraph must have struck you as almost ComicsNixian. I’m not going to bother explaining it, because I’m a dick that way, but I will say my first exposure to anime was Rumiko Takahashi’s Ranma 1/2 — specifically a 12th generation VHS tape of the series as it aired on Japanese TV, without subtitles. It was still the funniest fucking thing I’d ever seen… until, of course, I saw Rumiko Takahashi’s far superior Urusei Yatsura. It also helped that Ranma 1/2 began repeating itself after about 24 episodes and got really dull. (Via ANN)
