Since Peter Jackson has decided to adapt The Hobbit into three movies, we all knew he was going to have to add a lot of stuff to the not-that-long original story’s narrative to fill all the time. Jackson has sworn up and down that he’d be taking material solely from Tolkien’s other books and appendices and notes and stuff, but I think we all realize there’s no way Jackson would be able to resist putting his own personal touch on the films (as he did with Lord of the Rings, which had more than enough material). So it was only a matter of time from the release of the second trailer and other clips that we would get our first look at a part of The Hobbit movie that wasn’t seen in J.R.R. Tolkien’s book:
I’m ambivalent about it, myself. I’m not sure what it really adds to the original story, but I also can’t dent Gandalf can bust a fucking groove. I guess I’ll have to wait to see it in 3-D to make my call.
