Indiana Jones Shot First (…Eventually)

We’ve all heard the legend — that the seminal scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark, in which Indiana Jones simply shoots a skilled swordsman after an elaborate display of skill, was improvised after Harrison Ford got tired trying to shoot the action sequence. I imagine it’s more or less true, although the footage of the scene in the movie was obviously staged (since otherwise how would the swordsman have known to fall down and the crowd run?). Anyways, EW somehow found the actual intended action sequence… and it kinda sucks. The version we got was a million times better. I don’t know what conclusions about filmmaking, the collaborative process, and/or willingness to revise your work that we can draw from this, but I think we can all agree that someone needs to shoot the Indiana Jones franchise in the same manner. Much like it did in Raiders, it’ll save a lot of time, effort, and make everyone happier in the long run anyways.
