It’s true, Topless Robot has a new commenting system, as many of you have noticed (and sent me bitter, bitter emails about). The system is called LiveFyre. The good news is that those of you who login with Facebook, Gmail, Google or Yahoo should remain completely unaffected (if you want a special username, register with the My Voice Nation thingie). The bad news is that if you had a Disqus account, it — and all the likes you’ve accrued — are now dead, as far as TR’s concerned. Sorry.
This was not anything I had any control over, but feel free to heap profanity on me as needed. There is a plus side to LiveFyre; it wasn’t done just to infuriate you. The new abilities include:
When conversation is happening about an article on Facebook or Twitter, you can now see that conversation within the commenting thread. You can also tag and import your friends from Twitter and Facebook within the comment stream yourself.
? True Real Time
You can see who is listening to a conversation and read comments in real time, making it easier to jump right into the discussion.
You can choose to be alerted via email when someone replies to or likes your comment.
? Follow Your Friends
You’ll be able to see what your friends are saying and doing on our publications and Voice Places now with this one account.
But the real bonus here is that all those replies to comments that got lost and shuttled randomly around the threads? Well, that shit should finally be taken care of. I don’t know about you, but I’m happy to trade my likes in for a commenting system that actually works like it’s supposed to.
Of course, this presumes LiveFyre is going to work like it’s supposed to. If you say any problems or wackiness this weekend, I’d appreciate you dropping me a line
. Again, use as much profanity as you feel necessary; I can handle it. And again, my apologies for any inconvenience. I’m really hoping this will be worth it in the long run. And if not, TOTALLY NOT MY FAULT.
