Ben Stiller generally plays either an over-confident ass or a total nebbish – directing himself in the newest adaptation of James Thurber’s The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, he can theoretically do both. Instead, however, it looks like he’s mostly interested in channeling Michel Gondry and turning the escapist humor of the book into an art film.
First, let’s look at the trailer for the 1947 movie adaptation starring Danny Kaye. It’s pretty much the sort of thing I imagined when reading excerpts from the book in elementary school:
Then, after the jump, Stiller’s version, barely recognizable as remotely the same thing…yet very potentially cool in its own way.
