By now, we’ve probably all seen the commercials in which James Earl Jones and Malcolm McDowell read Facebook statuses aloud in their distinctive thespian tones. You also know that on a broadcast TV commercial, there’s no way they could truly recreate the discourse of the Internet, lest the FCC track them down for a new Ludovico treatment as punishment.
The YouTube comments section on any given video is particularly egregious; a cesspool of the human race’s worst anonymous impulses to wish death, rape and suicide upon one another. But when these rantings – in this case, and argument about the sexual orientation of a One Direction member – are performed by English actors in artsy black and white cinematography…well, it just proves that one person’s trash is another’s treasure.
