Skilled Nerd Spends $3 Grand to Hunt for Gollum

Chris Bouchard is a Lord of the Rings with too much time on his hands. It’s why he’s making a 40-minute fan film called The Hunt for Gollum, which he started on in 2007 and looks startlingly good and cost 3000 bucks. From the official site:
The script is adapted from elements of the appendices of The Lord of the Rings. The story follows the Heir of Isildur; the “greatest huntsman
and traveller in Middle Earth” as he sets out to find the creature
Gollum. The creature must be found to discover the truth about the
Ring, and to protect the future Ringbearer.
My Tolkien is somewhere between rusty and non-existent, so I have no idea where this fits in. Obviously, if this dude finds Gollum, he still leaves him the hell alone so that Bilbo stumbles upon him later, right? Anyways, the full flick will be released for free on May 3rd; enjoy the trailer for now. (Via /Film)
Update: Lest another snide Tolkien nerd email me, apparently it’s Aragorn, searching for Gollum prior to Fellowship of the Ring, so that Gandalf can find out if the ring Frodo got from Bilbo is indeed the One Ring. Why Gandalf wouldn’t just chuck the damn ring in the fire, just as he did in FotR, is beyond me. Also, why not just call him Aragorn in the summary instead of “Heir of Isildur”? I mena, all of Aragorn’s daddies were also heirs, right? So, really, you’re just trying to confuse nerds like me. Asshole.
