MTV’s Teen Wolf Show Isn’t Going Away

I can ignore this news no longer, as much as I’d like to — MTV has ordered a pilot of a TV series based on Teen Wolf, and it looks like it’s going to air. Except that the series will be nothing like the movie, so… fuck. From Hollywood Reporter:

MTV’s reinvention of the 1980s movie “Teen Wolf” is inching closer
to reality with a pilot presentation order. The cable network announced the project in January as part of its
development slate. After seeing the script, MTV brass picked it up
to presentation. …

“It has a fresh take and is very different from the original,” said
Liz Gateley, senior vp MTV series development. “It has more of an
‘American Werewolf in London’ feel to it. It’s a dramatic thriller
with two best friends in the center who provide a great comedy
element: They are two very relatable characters on the outer
circles of popular cliques.”

Great. So it’s called Teen Wolf, but its nothing like the movie. Fantastic. That’s great. That makes total sense. Goddamn it, why even use the name? It’s not like there were other teenage werewolf movies you could trade in on, or maybe you could use the title of the werewolf movie you’re actually basing the goddamn show on. Or even — god forbid — think up an original goddamn title. I understand Teen Wolf wasn’t Casablanca, but to use the title and trade in on the flick’s cultural good will but have other relationship to the movie is bullshit.

Sigh. You understand this is totally Twilight’s fault, right? (Via Warming Glow)
