?Okay. This news comes from such a chain of ridiculous sources that I’m hesitant to even call it a rumor — it’s more like a notion. Basically, in some Serbian interview, Gillian Anderson mentioned something about there potentially being a third X-Files movie in 2012, which I would have immediately dismissed except that Bloody Disgusting says they’ve confirmed the rumor, and that the movie may actually be a reboot. I still don’t think it will happen, if only since both the last two X-Files movies tanked so hard, but I wanted to mention it because making a third X-Files film more than a decade after the series ended is such a stupid idea (and longer since the series was any good). Sorry, Chris Carter — it’s way too late to continue building on the X-Files mythology, and no one cares anymore — and they care even less about new stand-alone X-Files stories, as evidenced by I Want to Believe.
Maybe a reboot would work, but I’m not that certain. I used to be an X-Files fan in the ’90s, but then it just got too punishing to watch as nothing was ever revealed and there was never any forward movement on the master plot. I gave up round about 97 or so, I think. I won’t pretend to speak for everybody, but there’s no way in hell I’d be willing to start over from scratch. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice… I waste another five years of Friday nights, I guess. (Via /Film)
