Peter Sarsgaard Is Playing Somebody You’ve Never Heard of in Green Lantern

?Peter Sarsgaard has been cast as a villain — not the villain, necessarily, but a villain — in the Ryan Reynolds-starring Green Lantern movie. That villain is Hector Hammond, and obviously, if you’re a Green Lantern fanatic or a DC fan, you probably know of him. I was speaking of more general nerds like myself, who when asked to name some Green Lantern foes with a gun to our heads, would end up dead well before Hector Hammond’s name ever came up. I had to look him up at Wikipedia, but I’ll bet everyone that the movie script is using Hammond as per Secret Origin:

He appears in the secret origin, where he claims to be Carol Ferris‘ boyfriend.
However in the next issue it is revealed that he is just a private
consultant for Ferris Aircraft and that they had gone out to dinner,
according to Carol, “on business”. While inspecting Abin Sur‘s
crashed aircraft, Hammond is affected by the meteorite fragment in its
reactor. This leads to his brain growing bigger, and able to read
minds, including Carol Ferris and Hal Jordan who Hammond deduces is the Green Lantern. His mental powers keep Hal from using his ring, and is only stopped when Sinestro encases his head in an energy bubble, cutting off his air supply. In Green Lantern, Vol. 4, #35 (October, 2008) it is revealed that Hammond wants the power of a god in order to gain revenge on Hal Jordan/Green Lantern.

It makes far more sense than Hammond’s other origin, which is a petty thief who stumbles on the meteorite than created Gorilla Grodd; plus it’ll give ol’ Blake Lively/Carol Ferris a way to be in distress. But I assume Sinestro’s still going to be part of the movie, because I have a hard time believing a fight with Hector Hammond can carry the Green Lantern movie by itself. Right?
