?Anyone with common sense knows that the Star Wars movies would be coming out on Blu-ray at some point sooner or later. So the news is this: LucasFilm admitted this through its mouthpiece Steve Sansweet at C2E2 this past weekend, and that Lucas and crew have been working on them for “years” now. Here’s Sansweet’s quote, courtesy of The Blu-ray Blog:

“We have been at work for a couple of years working on – I won’t call it the Ultimate Set because we keep finding stuff – but, a very full set of all six movies on Blu-ray with lots of extra material. We’re finding all kinds of scenes from dailies that have never been seen before. Beyond all of those things that you know about… there are some real treasures.”

I think we can use our common sense to guess that the movies will include the special editions of the original trilogy, but the question is if the non-special edition versions will be included, hopefully via seamless branching. Certainly, Blu-ray has the space and capability, but George Lucas both 1) loves making people things several times and 2) hates joy, so I don’t think i’ll be betting on it. That’s fan art above, by the way, and not official covers.
