has posted images from the first day of racing for Run’a Entertainment’s Evangelion
RT-01 apr Corolla” team in the Super GT300-class grand touring
championship series on Saturday.Not only was the team’s Toyota Corolla Axio painted
in homage to the anime’s Evangelion< EVA-01
unit, but the uniforms of drivers Koki Saga and Kosuke Matsuura were
patterned after the plug suit of the anime’s main character Shinji
Ikari. (Similarly, the “race queen” models Noa Mizutani and Yuuna Chiba
wore outfits loosely inspired by the characters Rei and Asuka.)

The Evangelion RT-01 apr Corolla team is
currently #14 after the first qualifying run of the Fuji Speedway round,
trailing the Mach
Go Go Go Shaken 408R team (#11) and the Hatsune Miku X GSR
Porsche team (#12).
Most racing analysts agree the Evangelion Corolla team would probably have finished better had the driver not screeched to a halt 30 feet after the starting line and cried in the driver’s seat for more than two hours before finally continuing to race.
