Does Anyone Else Have the Munchies?

Reefer Madness is an exploitation classic that aims to school impressionable youth on the dangers of a marijuana. Over the years, the film has become a favorite of stoners and cult film fans alike, going so far to inspire a musical that was filmed for Showtime in 2005. It’s also truly terrible, which is why the Rifftrax team mercilessly skewered it on one of their DVD releases last year. But like a baked teen searching for Munchos at 1 a.m., the guys won’t rest until they satisfy their hunger. In this case, it’s a hunger to crack foxy about the flick in their latest Fathom Events screening, but you get the point. Here’s the details:

Fans of the legendary hit show Mystery Science Theater 3000 and internet sensation
RiffTrax are in for the best
Thursday in the history of the world on August 19 when NCM Fathom, the
goons of Something Awful, and RiffTrax team up again to present
RiffTrax Live: Reefer Madness
at 8:00 p.m. Eastern / 7:00 p.m. Central / 6:00 p.m. Mountain /
8:00 p.m. Pacific (tape delayed).  The creative team behind MST3K –
Michael J. Nelson,
Kevin “Tom Servo” Murphy
and Bill “Crow T. Robot” Corbett
– will reunited on the big screen for an evening of live riffing on the
1936 cult classic feature that warned against the horrors of excessive
marijuana consumption.

Better still, the fellas are offering you the chance to have one of your wisecracks featured in the event with their “Toke of Genius” writing contest that lets would-be Tom Servos watch one of these clips and create a joke. The contest runs through 8/18, so best to get cracking and submit your entry sooner rather than later. Except of course if you are totally high, in which case you probably aren’t getting a damn thing done anytime soon. For more info on the event (and a corresponding iPad giveaway), click here. Just remember kids, hugs not drugs.
