DVD Day: January 4th, 2011

? Machete
For being an iced tea commercial, that’s a pretty goddamned accurate description of Machete.

? The Sarah Jane Adventures: The Complete Third Season

? Buffy Season 8: The Motion Comic
On Blu-ray. Contains the first 19 or so comics, a.k.a. “the good ones.”

? The Ricky Gervais Show: The Complete First Season
For you comedy nerds.

? Rocky & Bullwinkle & Friends: The Complete Series
$65 gets you all 5 seasons, or 91 episodes. A great deal unless you’ve been collecting them season by season, because this is the only way — so far — that you can possibly own season 5. Ouch.

? Blade Runner: The Final Cut
The cut released with the 5-disc set, now on its own on Blu-ray. It has “new and improved” special effects, “extended and included deleted scenes” and so forth. It’s great, but you probably still want the Director’s cut first and foremost.

? The Leprechaun Collection
All four Leprechaun movies for $8.50. What the hell are you waiting for, the Criterion editions?

? WolvesBayne
“Russell Bane (Jeremy London, ”Party of Five”) finds himself in the
middle of a paranormal war between vampires, werewolves and human
hunters after being viciously attacked by a werewolf. Overwhelmed by his
own werewolf transformation, he seeks the help of the beautiful and
mysterious Alex. Together they must stop the war before the exiled
vampire goddess Lilith (Yancy Butler, ”Kick-Ass”) regains her strength
and destroys all mankind.” God, I love it when they don’t even try.

FYI: I’m going to try to start including the nerdy porn parodies in DVD Day from now on. However, if you’re porn-shopping and happen to see How to Train Your Hard-On in the New Releases section, let me assure you it’s only parodying a name and not a film.
