?Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura told MTV that Michael Bay will indeed be returning for the fourth Transformers movie, which will be released in 2014. He also confirmed the following:

“I think we really are going to do a reboot there.
[But] what that’s going to be, we don’t even know yet…. We’ve got to get
a story first. It’s a hybrid because there’s still continuity going on,
and there will be a lot of new cast. Whether there’s
anybody from the first cast, we don’t even know yet. But it’s going to
be a whole new story. But the characters that would certainly come along
would be Optimus and Bumblebee, I’m sure.”

So it’s a Transformers reboot that keeps the Transformers themselves but only switches out the humans? While a Transformers movie without Sam’s parents would be a small mercy, I feel they’re rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic in that regard. I mean, Optimus ripped Megatron’s fucking head off in the last picture; a real reboot would mean he could be the villain again, as opposed to whatever contrived way they’ll need to figure out to bring him back in a non-reboot (maybe the Matrix of Leadership, in addition to controlling the planet-destroying machine, also regrows heads. Leadership!). Still, my favorite part of all of this little nightmare is that di Bonaventura actually said, “We’ve got to get
a story first.” I can only imagine the look of puzzled disdain that crossed Michael Bay’s face when he heard that. “What? Those words are English, but they make no sense in that order.”
