2001 Sequel Coming to Syfy From I, Frankenstein Director. What?

The estates of both Kubrick and Clarke have offered their full support for “3001: The Final Odyssey.”

REALLY?

On Syfy channel?

Syfy announced today that it is working with Scott Free Productions and Warner Horizon Television to adapt the Arthur C. Clarke novel 3001: The Final Odyssey into a miniseries. Stuart Beattie (Pirates of the Caribbean, Collateral) [AND DIRECTOR OF I, FRANKENSTEIN – ed] will write the adaptation and serve as executive producer along with Scott Free’s Ridley Scott and David W. Zucker. Clayton Krueger will serve as co-executive producer.

3001: The Final Odyssey will presumably star somebody other than Gary Lockwood as Frank Poole, whose long-frozen body is found in space and revived. 2061 was wise to skip over – I remember that book being a huge letdown, promising me HAL’s return and only vaguely delivering in the last chapter.

Can this possibly be good? All I have going through my head right now is “Dumb…Dumb…Dumb! DUMB-DUMB! bangbangbangbangbangbangbangbang.”
