TRAILER: Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation Totally Not Riding on Rogue One’s Coattails
The Mission: Impossible film series is like an old friend who meanders in and out of the crowd at a noisy party, occasionally approaching you, having a brief conversation, and then vanishing for an extended period to get more beer.
When Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol was released back in 2011, many fans and critics rolled their eyes, thinking it was about as needed as, say, Men in Black 3. The film itself, however, directed by Brad Bird, received many unexpectedly positive reviews, and a lot of enthused fanboy appreciation. As such, a fifth film was put into production. Three years later, we have the latest, called Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, directed by Christopher McQuarrie (screenwriter of Edge of Tomorrow and director of Jack Reacher). It is not to be confused with Star Wars: Rogue One.
Although Tom Cruise’s films haven’t been getting very good numbers recently (do I have to be the 1000th critic to recommend the maligned Edge of Tomorrow? See that, sir), they have been pretty consistently good. Perhaps a return to a somewhat loved franchise will finally allow the public accept that the actor makes good decisions, and generally stars is some pretty great movies.
Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation will be released in theaters July 31st.
