Marvel Just Keeps Picking at that “One More Day” Scab

?Maybe Spider-man fans weren’t thrilled with Marvel retconning Peter Parker and Mary Jane’s marriage out of existence in “One More Day,” but the real problem was obviously how Spidey/Marvel did it. Of all the goofy solutions possible in the Marvel universe, Spidey making a deal with the devil? Dumb. So dumb it’s out of character for Spider-Man, who is not the sharpest tool in the Marvel shed when it comes to thinking with his head instead of his heart. However, it’s done now, so you’d think Marvel would just try and move forward with the marriage-less Spider-Man, if not try to sweep the damn thing under Stan Lee’s rug.

So why, oh why, does Marvel insist on rubbing fans’ noses in the storyline they hated? Why do they keep reminding readers at every opportunity that they erased Spider-Man’s marriage in such a horrible, horrible way? I don’t know, but next on Marvel’s agenda is O.M.I.T., or “One Moment in Time,” which will retell Peter and Mary Jane’s wedding day, post “One More Day.” From CBR:

The story of “One Moment In Time” by Quesada and
artist Paolo Rivera will be serialized in Marvel’s flagship “Amazing
Spider-Man” title beginning in July’s issue #637 and running through
#640, all of which will be oversized, and as the E-i-C explained exclusively
to CBR, the series will turn back the clock in some unexpected ways to
show what happen on the day that should have been Peter and MJ’s wedding
day instead of the version published in “The Wedding!” of 1987’s
“Amazing Spider-Man Annual” #21.

Mmm. Four issues written by Joe Quesada about how Peter and M.J. didn’t manage to get married. Because Marvel made Spidey make a deal with the devil. In case you
forgot. Maybe next they can do a miniseries about “One More Day” from Mephisto’s point of view. And then the wedding from the caterers point of view. And then maybe a giant-size issue just of Quesada flipping all the Spidey fans the bird on every page.
