Agent Coulson Was Just Assigned Two New Co-Workers

The pretty people you see above are Elizabeth Henstridge and Iain De Caestecker. Hailing from Britain, they are the latest actors to be cast on Joss Whedon’s upcoming S.H.I.E.L.D. show. They join Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson (I’m still wondering how him being, you know, alive will be explained) and Ming-Na as Agent Melinda May. Henstridge will be portray Agent Jenna Simmons, while De Caestecker will be Agent Leo Fitz. The genre fans amongst you might remember De Caestecker from his role as Paul on BBC America’s The Fades, but for the most part these two are unknowns. Newsarama breaks down their characters thusly:

These two came through training together and still choose to spend most of their time in each other’s company. Their sibling-like relationship is reinforced by their shared nerd tendencies – she deals with biology and chemistry, he’s a whiz at the technical side of weaponry.

The Hollywood Reporter describes the pair as “bickering,” which I imagine will result in lots of snappy repartee that will endear them to the audience before one or both of them is killed in the most sadistically Whendonesque manner possible. That’s an easy joke, and I’d feel bad about making if I didn’t think it would prove to become 100% accurate at some point.
